Bolivar Trask was a military scientist working for S.H.I.E.L.D.
Trask earned a Ph.D on genetics and cybernetics, and believed the rise of mutants could replace humans as the dominant species on Earth. Deciding that humanity need a countermeasure against mutants, Trask was part of the Sentinel Project from the beginning to construct a series of weaponized robots known as Sentinels. However, the Project was soon canceled by Nick Fury. Trask, disagreeing for scrapping the Project, aligned himself with the human supremacy group, the Friends of Humanity, and secretly continuing the Project and acting on behalf of the F.O.H. as a mole within S.H.I.E.L.D.
Unfortunately for Trask, during an F.O.H.-sponsored Sentinel attack on Superman and the X-Men, his treachery was discovered, and Fury had him arrested for treason. Trask angrily retorted that Fury was committing treason against humanity and insisted that mutants needed to be wiped out, but Fury quickly intimidated him into silence before he was dragged away. Following this, Trask was imprisoned for his crimes.
