James Gordon is the Commissioner of the Gotham City Police Department, and one of Batman's greatest allies. His daughter is Barbara Gordon, better known as Batgirl.
History[]
Prior to becoming a police officer, James Gordon was a United States Marine veteran in the Gulf War and had served alongside Nick Fury during Operation Desert Storm. After succeeded Police Chief Angel Rojas as Head of Police, Gordon was also unique among many of Gotham's civic leaders in his trust of Batman. In 2009, he contacted Charles Xavier from the Xavier Institute in hopes of rewriting the Joker's twisted psychotic mind but failed due to the Punisher's sudden arrival.
During the Murderworld incident, he was flown over to Bayville to assist in the hostage situation with his knowledge and experience of the Gotham criminals.
