Robin, real name Richard "Dick" Grayson, is the protegé of Batman.

Early life[]

Dick is a former member of the Flying Graysons acrobatic family in Haley's Circus. Dick and his parents performed nightly with their death defying high wire acts. When the circus came to Gotham City, the gangster, Tony Zucco tried to extort protection money out of the owner Mr. Haley, but he refused to cooperate. In retaliation, Zucco sabotaged their high-wire trapeze act, staging an "accident" that ended in the death of Dick's parents.

Bruce Wayne, who helped to get the circus to town, was in the audience and witnessed these events unfold. Seeing himself in Dick, Bruce arranged with Commissioner Gordon of the Police Department to become the young boy's legal guardian. However, in the rather large and empty Wayne Manor, Dick became more and more detached. Alfred Pennyworth brought this to Bruce's attention, who was in his fledgling years as Batman, and had little time to spend with Dick. Eventually, Dick went out on his own and tracked down Zucco but was caught. Batman saved Dick and took him back to the Batcave, where he revealed his secret identity.

Robin[]

After personally training Dick, Bruce allowed him to become his partner, Robin. He became Batman's semi-regular partner continuing to work with him on a limited basis. They would later be joined up by Barbara Gordon, who assumed the identity of Batgirl.

Powers and Abilities[]

Raised as a circus acrobat, Dick is capable of incredible feats of agility and gymnastic skills. Under Batman's training he has become a very skilled martial artist and detective despite his relatively young age.

Personality[]

In direct contrast to his mentor, Robin has a more easy-going and social personality, and shows to be very eager and enthusiastic when he's fighting criminals. Despite the fact he respects Batman, he's shown to be willing to call him out whenever he thinks he's in the wrong, such as when he was reluctant to help Superman and leave Gotham unprotected when the F.O.H kidnapped Professor Xavier.

Background information[]

In DC Comics, Dick Grayson is the first character to take on the mantle of Robin. When he becomes an adult, he would leave Bruce and become independent, assuming the identity of Nightwing.

The Last Son's version of Robin is a composite of the incarnations seen in the animated series The Batman and Teen Titans.
